The film stars Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, and Alfre Woodard.
A spin-off focusing on the origins of the Annabelle doll that was introduced in The Conjuring was announced shortly after The Conjuring's release, mainly due to its worldwide box office success and the positive reception towards the depiction of the doll.
Principal photography began in January 2014 in Los Angeles.
Annabelle premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on September 29, 2014, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 3, 2014, by Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema. Annabelle received generally negative reviews from critics, many of whom felt the film inferior to its predecessor but was a box office success, grossing over $257 million against its $6.5 million production budget.
"That night, the couple is disturbed by the sounds of their next door neighbors, the Higgins, being murdered during a home invasion. While Mia calls the police, she and John are attacked by the Higgins' killers. The police arrive and shoot one killer, a man, dead while the female killer commits suicide by slitting her throat inside the nursery while holding the doll. News reports identify the assailants as the Higgins' estranged daughter, Annabelle, and her unidentified boyfriend, both of whom are members of a satanic cult. "

That is, until Bee is quickly taken from them in a road accident. Some time later, the Mullins' open their old home to Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman) and a handful of young girls from an orphanage, in particular a wheelchair/crutch-bound girl named Janice (Talitha Bateman). By this time, Mrs. Mullins has been bed-ridden with a "condition" and Mr. Mullins appears quiet and withdrawn. Janice doesn't do as she's told - which is to stay away from one locked bedroom - but something draws her to enter this room and look around. It's the Mullins' daughter's room. She is led by what appears to be Bee's ghost, and she finds the doll: Annabelle. Strange things start happening in the home. The young girls start experiencing things first. Janice's closest friend Linda (Lulu Wilson) is the first one to figure out what's starting to go on, speaking to Mr Mullins about it briefly. It doesn't take long for things to escalate. Linda manages to get Sister Charlotte to understand the root of the problems so far - the doll - and she confronts Mrs. Mullins. The Mullins' appear to know and understand what's going on, hinting it's been dealt with before; but it's not enough to save them all this time.

Annabelle Comes Home is a 2019 American supernatural horror film directed by Gary Dauberman, in his directorial debut, from a script by Dauberman and a story by Dauberman and James Wan, who also acted as producer with Peter Safran. It serves as a sequel to 2014's Annabelle and 2017's Annabelle: Creation, and as the seventh installment in the Conjuring Universe franchise. The film stars Mckenna Grace, Madison Iseman, and Katie Sarife, along with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who reprise their roles as Lorraine and Ed Warren.
In early April 2018, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that a then-untitled film in the Conjuring Universe franchise would be released on July 3, 2019. Later that month, it was announced that the film would be another installment in the Annabelle series, with Dauberman signed on to write and direct the film in his directorial debut, based on a story treatment written by Dauberman and Wan. Principal photography commenced by mid-October and officially wrapped in December 2018 in Los Angeles.

Prior to the release of the film in June 2019, Dauberman commented on the possibility of another film in the Annabelle series: "I didn't look at this process ... going, 'What other stuff can we absolutely spin-off into other movies?' [It's about] what works for this movie, and then if people seem to dig it, then we'll go from there." Safran also commented on the possibility, stating that they will continue to develop and create films "as long as [they] keep having original stories to tell. The moment that you start repeating yourself and really diluting the good will that exists out there, then it's the beginning of the end."
Mary Ellen's crush, Bob Palmeri, arrives outside the house and serenades her, but is later attacked by the Black Shuck and hides in the Warrens' backyard. Mary Ellen is tormented by the Ferryman, while Judy is confronted by Annabelle in her bedroom.
