Tasked with writing community rules can be a daunting challenge. I have done so with my own communities and read ones at other communities and they all say about the same thing. For something different, I am going to list some Rules of Thumb that might make this easier to read and remember.
> When in Doubt: Default to New
If you find you are having problems being part of the community try returning to when you first started and see if you can take a different, new approach to what you are trying to accomplish.
>Five Star Rating *****
As a rule of thumb, try to use a five (5) star rating system with one (1) being the worse and five (5) being the best.
>When Posting an Embed Check it's Age
A YouTube video that has been active for 2 years is more stable than one that has only been up for 2 months.
>KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid
When posting a topic always try to keep it easy to read and to the point.
>Arrow Hits The Mark
Try to be accurate with your statements. If you are not sure what it means, Google it.
>Open-Ended Replies
Word your replies to allow others to continue the discussion
>Bracket Actions in Chat
Surround your action statements with bracketing in chat to show separation
"Anyone got any popcorn?" {gets hit in the face with a jelly bean}
[slides by UNDEAD1 and farts a little] "Oops, sorry dude"
>800x600 Rule
Pictures that exceed 800x600 px breaks the display view with a scroll bar.
>Spoilers Spoil
Try not to post spoilers about movies.
Use spoiler tags when needed
>Shoutbox Over-Runs
Shoutbox has a character limit for a reason.
Try to limit shoutbox entries to under 3 in a row.
If you need more room to say what you want - Consider making a topic.
>Search Before
Before posting a topic use the forum search.
>KISS: Keep It's Search Simple
Instead of searching the entire title search keywords of the title.
Not: "The Adventures of Walter Mitty" Try: "Mitty"
Not: "The Little Princess" Try: "Princess"
>Toned Colorful Metaphors
ProBoards limits users to 13 years or older but we should really all try to limit our swearing.
Don't drop F-Bombs all over the community. Keep it to a minimum.
>EOP: Equal Opportunity Posting
All members shall have the right to post any subject that does not conflict with ProBoards TOS or GhostTown's Rules of the Summoning
>Sometimes a Tree is Just a Tree
The written word can be misleading sometimes.
As a rule of thumb, always assume that what is written means what it says.
>Quote Crazy
Having seen the result of multiple quote discussions, keep quoting to a minimum.
Topic posts can use quotes to isolate information from the text for impact.
Quote Crazy refers to quotes within quotes within quotes.
>Keyword Tagging
Right now keyword tagging is not available here. I'm researching the code. If it becomes available;
>Global Emails
From time to time you may receive emails from this community.
Sometimes they will be important information
Othertimes they may be announcements of upcoming activities like movie-chats or video block-parties
Make sure your emails don't go to your spam filter.
>Siggy Swipes
Refrain from stealing another member's signature.
If you really, really want to use it, ask them for their permission.
>GhostTown Creative Property
