I watch movies for entertainment.
I don't work for the entertainment industry.
I don't have a job to critique or review movies.
I have never published a movie for profit.
I have never constructed movie sets or directed actors.
That being said, there are certain aspects of movies that must be present or cannot be present for me to enjoy the movie.
For me, the camera work needs to be invisible. The movie needs to play as a movie not an example of filming styles. I can't suspend my reality if I am constantly being reminded that it is a movie. The best directors earn fame for what they made not how they made it.
For me, a movie without filtering reminds me of home movies and soap operas. Filtering sets an ambience to the images. Shadows should be soft and natural. Anything that distracts from the movie is bad.
For me, I watch a movie to be told a story. The people acting out the parts of the story should at least try to make you believe what they are portraying. If the story is set in a certain time the props used in telling that story need to reflect the history of that time period. Like a scifi movie in the far future that is using CRT computer screens. Electric lighting in a haunted house that has been vacant since the 1700s. What is the point of watching the movie if you know how it will end? Movies need to be believable or at least believable to a point that you can suspend the reality while watching it.
I'm not hard on movies. Any film that can catch and hold my attention is a well-made film. I have a lot of time and I watch a lot of movies. I find that around 7 out of every 10 movies I see are junk. I don't criticize those movies, I shut them off. Some keep me watching, some make it half way but many are killed off before the title.
We all love Riffing on bad movies. Not all bad movies are worth riffing on tho. While we all have seen some SBIG (So Bad It's Good) movies the truly great ones are still far and in between that horrible stuff. There is a limit that can be exceeded even for riffing.
What is the Best, or Worst part of movies you see?
What constitutes a SBIG (So Bad It's Good) movie for you?
What messed up elements of a movie are tolerable?
What makes you shut off a movie as soon as you see it?

Filters are needed
Lighting the scene should look natural
Proper use of shadows
Lens flares to a minimum
Proper framing
